内容提要：Originating from natural language processing and corpus linguistics, local grammar analysis has developed into a linguistic approach, parallel to construction grammar and frame semantics, etc. This talk sets out to discuss the theoretical underpinnings, methodologies and future prospects of local grammar research. To start with, I will trace the local grammar approach back to theFirthian view (1968) onrestricted languageandHarris’(1968) view onsublanguage, treating them as the major theoretical foundation stones of local grammar. Secondly, I will deal with basic objectives, principles and methodologies of a local grammar research, illustrating these with specific case studies from my team’s past work, such as a local grammar of apology (Suand Wei2018), etc. Thirdly and finally, I will discuss future prospects of the local grammar approach, focusing on its possible extensions into other areas of research, including foreign language teaching and research, academic discourse analysis and critical discourse analysis, among others.

主讲人简介：Wei Naixingis a founding member of the Asia Pacific Corpus Linguistics Association and founding chairmanoftheCorpus Linguistics Society of China. He is currentlyProfessor of EnglishandChairmanof Academic Committee oftheForeign Languages School at Beihang University. His major research interests cover corpuslinguistics, phraseology and discourse analysis, among others. He has published profusely, along with undertaking numerous state-sponsoredresearch projects, which have helped pushforwardcorpus linguistics in China and internationally. He has also servedsuccessivelyas Professor of English at Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Adjunct/ Visiting Professor at other key universities across China, supervising/training corpus linguists of the youngergeneration.
